About the Office of the General Counsel

The Office of the Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel strives to provide, manage, and coordinate timely and responsible legal advice about the broad array of legal issues that face a dynamic public research University.

The Office of the General Counsel:

• Provides analysis and advice to University administrators on legal implications of policy and other decisions under applicable laws, regulations, and policies;
• Represents the University and the Arizona Board of Regents in litigation matters, administrative proceedings, and significant transactions; and
• Engages in a host of activities to prevent legal claims against the University and the Arizona Board of Regents, including providing educational activities and opportunities.

It is our Office goal to assist in minimizing legal risks and costs, reduce litigation, and ensure legal compliance. Recognizing that an integral part of the University's vision is to sustain a community that values every individual and continually strives to promote the equity and inclusiveness that are essential to our diversity and excellence, the Office dedicates extensive effort toward achieving those goals.
